BAJURA: Nepal National Elementary Child Development Centre and Gautam Child Development Centre in Badimalika Municipality-6 have established themselves as model centres for child development in Bajura district.
There are a total of 223 child development centres in the district. Most of these centres remain unmanaged and disorganised. However, the two aforementioned centres are being operated as exemplary and model centres, said chief of the District Education Coordination Unit, Gopal Datta Joshi.

The learning environment at these centres is interactive and the children are taught lessons through games and other such means. According to the mayor of Badimalika Municipality, Padam Badhuwa, Nepal National Elementary Child Development Centre has been in operation for the past seven years considering the children’s needs.
“It is very crucial to properly look after a child for the first eight years of his/her life, more so for the first three years, the effect of which will last their entire lifetime,” said Mayor Badhuwa. He added that, in this context, investment must be made in the sector of child development.

Likewise, facilitator at Gautam Child Development Centre, Juna Karki, shared that be it a girl or a boy, both have similar physical, emotional, psychological and social needs. Both have the same capacity to learn; they have the same need for love, attention and compassion. Therefore, Karki iterates that the children must be taught as per their requirements.
The child development centres have been supported by the community, municipality and a non-government organisation Seto Gurans.
